I would like to have Tunnel based (route based) vpn between Sonicwall with Public IP 1.2.3.4 and cisco c800 with dynamic IP. In case of dynamic VPN, i learnt that vpn mode would be aggressive mode instead of main mode.

IP address is: Sonicwall WAN: 1.2.3.4 LAN: 172.38.54.0/24

Cisco WAN: 10.10.10.254/24 Gateway: 10.10.10.1/24 --> Cisco gets the IP from another WAN router. LAN: 192.168.200.1/24

This is how i have configured Sonicwall.

What will be the steps to be followed in Cisco? Please help.

  • the problem i could not configure it the way you mentioned is that Cisco doesn't have Public IP address. It is the private address that we are using in cisco. As i have mentioned above, cisco get the IP address from another router from another ISP. – de.walkar Jan 16 at 8:23
  • If the Cisco device doesn't have a Public IP then either it will have to always initiate the VPN (look at Dynamic VPN) -- I don't know how well this will work with a Cisco to SonicWALL VPN though. OR you'll need to get IKE/AH/ESP opened up/forwarded/published to the Cisco [if possible] and use the WAN IP of the ISP -- and ensure NAT-Traversal is enabled. I would look into Dynamic Cisco to Static SonicWALL VPN, but even then you need to ensure NAT-T is working. – PSaul Jan 16 at 15:43
